Juneteenth 2022

The NAACP Norwich Branch and Global City Norwich are pleased to announce the Juneteenth Ceremony and Flag Raising to commemorate the 157th anniversary of the Juneteenth, the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The Juneteenth Commemoration Program and Flag Raising will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 10:00 am in the David Ruggles Memorial Freedom Courtyard, 100 Broadway in downtown Norwich. The Daniel Jenkins Memorial Award will be presented to Mr. Ben Haith, “Boston Ben” the creator of the Juneteenth Flag and for his tireless efforts to have Juneteenth recognized as a federal and State of Connecticut Holiday.

The 1st annual Juneteenth Heroes and Sheroes Awards and Celebration will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 6:00 pm in the Donald L. Oat Theater, 62 Broadway in downtown Norwich. The honorees are Pastor Adam Bowles-Castle Church, Ashon Avent, Erica Brannen, Janelle Posey-Green, DHW Athletics and Tiara Waters. This event is open to the public and seating is limited. The Juneteenth Festival will be held on Saturday, June 18th at 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, in the back of 241 Main Street (The Palace Lot) in downtown Norwich. Come celebrate the 33rd Annual Norwich Juneteenth Festival with us. Food vendors, bounce house, live art stations, retail vendors, youth performers, dance and singing performances, music, DJ, African drumming and dancing and more! Let’s celebrate a part of American history together in a continuous effort to promote freedom and honor African American culture.
